The end of the March calendar quarter brings a new BNI Chapter leadership team. With my planned move to Singapore over the next couple of months, I felt the end of the quarter was also the best time for me to exit the chapter. As Dr Ivan Misner often notes, One of the best things about BNI is that the chapter members are all friends. One of the worst things about BNI is that the chapter members are all friends. My BNI chapter is made up of some of my strongest supporters, advocates, and colleagues.
But outside of the social aspect, I don’t have a lot to give back. I am winding down my local practice, so I am not seeing any new referral prospects to give to the group. I am being very selective about taking on new work. I am not sure how realistic it will be to service clients from Singapore. I therefore don’t need new referrals. In other words, I can’t be a proper BNI member. I don’t believe in filling a slot just for the sake of it – that isn’t the BNI way.
So, my Friday mornings are now free.
I look forward to finding a new BNI chapter in Singapore once I have settled in. In the meantime, I will be listening to BNI podcasts and I still have a few unread BNI books to get through.
