Where’s The Toilet?

Translation isn't just about language, but is also about ideas.

This post is about one of my 45-second pitches at my BNI Chapter, BNI City Business. You can read the introduction to this collection here

The BNI Leadership Team changes every six months, and this meeting (31 March, 2023) was my last as Vice President of the BNI City Business chapter. I had served two terms as VP, and was ready to step away from the additional workload the role brings.

This was also the end of my Lost In Translation series, and I opted to finish with something a bit more extreme – not just the translation of words, but also of meaning. I had been confronted with these types of cultural differences when I lived and travelled in Asia. Translation isn’t only about language.

It seemed like a fitting end to the series.

As the last meeting of this leadership team, our president (Jeremy) decided we should change things up by making our pitch include a song or poem. This was my attempt:

The series cessation
Of Lost in Translation
So on this occasion
Here is my summation:
When pitching to sell
Here is my advice
Try like hell
To be Clear and Concise

I had already decided on the image and text a few weeks before the poem/song challenge was made, so my poetry was created to fit.
