This post is about one of my 45-second pitches at my BNI Chapter, BNI City Business. You can read the introduction to this collection here.
I next decided to double down on the Quarterback idea. I don’t know a lot about American Football, so did a Google image search to come up with this one of the (then) Raven’s quarterback Lamar Jackson. I then teased out the Exit Planning Quarterback notion during my pitch.
I used this slide for a few weeks during lockdown, when our chapter was meeting on Zoom. At the end of this I realised the Quarterback idea was not sticking, so I dumped it (along with The Exit Quarterback).
The CEPA Quarterback
In the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) methodology, developing an exit plan for a business owner is a team effort. The team will commonly involve the business owner’s lawyer and accountant, a financial advisor, insurance broker, and even a family counsellor. Each team will be tailored to the specific needs of the client.
The CEPA Quarterback coordinates this team, typically organised into two workstreams (separating the business/financial from the family/personal matters). The other team members do not need to be CEPAs – but it can help. The CEPA methodology defines the key activities in the Exit Planning journey.
