This post is about one of my 45-second pitches at my BNI Chapter, BNI City Business. You can read the introduction to this collection here.
22 September 2023.
Last week saw a last minute change to the slide pitch. This week I swapped out the whole slide.
I had originally planned the following slide:

I planned to talk about how logos aren’t just used by commercial businesses. They are widely used by religious, cultural, and social enterprises. Like this one here.
I was planning on explaining that there is probably are large amount of cultural context in this one. If I was used to seeing temple domes and minarets on my walk to work (as in the bottom picture), the top logo would be far less suggestive. So, in addition to previewing your logo in different arrangements, colours, and rotations, it can also be useful to show a few people from different countries and cultural backgrounds to understand what they see.
But then I changed my mind
When prepping the slide, I just didn’t find the planned image funny anymore. So I changed it to the one at the top of this post. Of course, this isn’t a bad logo, but went with this for the cheap laughs. Gotta give ’em what they want!
A logo and a brand are really important value drivers for companies, particularly small businesses, They help det you apart and make you memorable. They can be valuable IP that can be transferred on sale.
Your business name, not so much. Using our own name as the name of the business limits its saleability. Your company name probably isn’t adding much – or any – value to your firm in the eyes of a buyer.
With this meme, I even went as far as confirming this is a real sign for a real law firm. You can’t trust images from the Internet with all the AI stuff out there. So I did a search, and found the firm. Their domain names are lubinglawoffice.com and lgrlegal.com. I guess lubinggregoryrectanus.com was taken. They are based in Jackson, Wyoming if you want to visit.
