BNI Pitch

Uniqueness

Use your firm's Competitive Advantage as a key message when selling your business, explaining how that uniqueness brings customers into the business.

This post is about one of my 45-second pitches at my BNI Chapter, BNI City Business. You can read the introduction to this collection here.

Our second BNI meeting of 2023, on January 27. My biggest meme flop to date (I think). Clearly not enough of our members have seen the 2004 Wayans brothers’ classic, White Chicks. A lot of confused looks in the room as I pitched, and I had to explain it to quite a few afterwards. *Sigh*

The message was about Competitive Advantage in the context of selling your business. Too many business owners really have no idea what sets them apart from their competion. Whay do customers choose you? What is your secret sauce? I believe it is essential for owners to understand what makes them unique, and to then double down. You can’t be all things to all people, so don’t try. Identify who you appeal to, and make sure they love what you do for them.

This uniqueness then needs to be placed front and centre when you prepare to sell your business, and ensure you communicate this to potential buyers. Focus on what your difference is, not how you do it – the how is your secret sauce. Buyers don’t get that until they own your business!
